About Us

Chipeta Water Company was started in July 1963 using wells located between Chipeta Road and 6450 Rd. Chipeta began buying treated water from The Project 7 Water Treatment plant in the early ‘80’s.

About 1993 the “Winter Stock Project” began whereby the Company was able to add more storage tanks, replace water lines, add new water lines and upgrade other areas for the purpose of providing water to livestock owners. The Federal Government supplied the funding for most of the infrastructure additions and upgrades done in our district as well as Menoken Water District and Tri-County Water Conservancy District service areas.

In 1999 we went through the process of becoming a District which enabled us to better meet the future needs of the service area, contract and/or cooperate with neighboring governmental entities and expands the availability of state grants and other aids.

The District office is located on Spring Creek Mesa, in beautiful Western Colorado, just West of the city of Montrose.

A long, cold winter produced a leak and a beautiful scene. This happened during our below zero streak in January 2013.

We had some repairs done to our Sunset Mesa tank in March of 2013. We had it sandblasted and repainted on the inside.

Might have watered a little bit too early! Or was the frost too late?
